John Earle & Son - "Building a Winning Team"
To the outsider, it would appear little has changed at the old established firm of Chartered Surveyors, Auctioneers & Estate Agents of John Earle & Son. After years at the helm Tony Earle retired in the Spring of 2000 and sadly died in the Summer of 2002. However, the foundations for development of the existing professional staff were already, well under way.
The head of our Residential Lettings & Management Department, Trudi Dean obtained her BSc Hons in Estate Management from Reading University, in 2003 and was immediately invited to be an Associate of the firm and a student member of the RICS.
Richard Abbey, an Associate at that time, was already totally responsible for the firm's monthly land and property auctions, as well as all the agricultural valuation, compensation and management work that the firm has traditionally handled for over 70 years in the Warwickshire and East Worcestershire areas. He helped to develop John Earle & Son into becoming the recognised firm of land and estate agents, dealing with farmland sales in the mid-Warwickshire area.
In the Spring of 2004 Peter Cornford, the Principal of the firm, decided there was much benefit to be gained from joining the NAEA, as their support and guidance to practicing residential agents seemed to be extremely broad-based and would compliment the existing alliance with the RICS. After joining the Association as a Fellow, he then encouraged Heidi Wintermantle, now our Lettings Manager, to study and pass her professional exams.
In the winter of 2005 Dean Lomas joined the firm as a sales negotiator and he also studied, like Heidi, the National Estate Agency exams and qualified in Spring of 2007. Prior to taking his final exams, he was approached by the production team for the BBC's "To Buy or not to buy" programme and was featured in the BBC's transmission on 6th February 2007. To his great credit the couple who were the subject of that particular programme did actually buy the property he proposed. Dean handled himself well when being interviewed by Jenny Powell and concluded a sale at the property's full asking price.
Nicola Farmer, who started with the firm in 2003 as a Receptionist, became a full time negotiator in 2006 and also passed her National Estate Agency exams last month. She now proposes to qualify as a Home Energy Inspector and to become accredited in order to undertake the inspections required under the Government's HIP's legislation. She is planning to join the RICS and pursue the Institution's technical exams so she can undertake residential property inspections and surveys.
Peter Cornford was pleased to announce on 1st April this year that Richard Abbey had joined him in the full equity partnership; much deserved reward for many years of loyalty and continuing high professional standards.
The firm now seems very well placed with a spread of competent professional people spanning all age spectrums, to give solid, sound advice when required. With ever changing land and property market conditions, together with legislation such as the recent Landlords Deposit Scheme having to be implemented plus the Home Information Pack that finally came into force on 1st August; John Earle & Son are now well prepared, with experienced and qualified staff, to embrace all manner of market influences, to include interest rate changes, confidence in the economy and even floods!
