John Earle & Son on BBC1's To Buy or Not to Buy
To buy or not to buy was indeed the question in November of last year, when researchers from the popular BBC1 daytime property programme walked through the doors of John Earle Estate Agents in Henley in Arden. Searching for their all important "wildcard" property for a family from Solihull, they struck gold with John Earle, who are well known for selling properties with character, style and location that home-buyers adore.
Mr Dean Lomas, was the negotiator involved in assisting "To Buy or Not to Buy" with their quest. Initially, there were three properties for consideration but one particular cottage quaintly named "The Cot" in the picturesque village of Great Packington, caught the researchers eye. This charming home had something special, which - despite being an unusual choice for the purchasers in question - just had to be considered alongside other properties that looked good on paper.
Members of the public and estate agents alike, may well assume that property based reality TV shows are simply set up in advance but all of us here at John Earle now know that this is not the case, and so do Mr & Mrs Halton who with a little help from us, found their dream home on To Buy or Not to Buy!
The Haltons fell in love with the grade II listed cottage as soon as they stepped inside, despite it being quite different from their original idea of what was right for them. Its location and individuality made is a very rare find, and a wealth of original features dating back to the 16th century plus lots of flexible accommodation created the perfect mix.
Feeling it was a home not to be missed, the asking price was offered and accepted, making a very successful day for all parties. The all-important legally binding contracts were exchanged in early January in good time for the programme's airing and negotiator Dean Lomas' television debut on 6th February 2007.
"The Cot" has made history for all the right reasons in the Warwickshire world of estate agency. Who would have thought the in John Earle's window lay the "wildcard" winner that would prove to be a perfect farmily home and dispel any cynical views about reality television that local estate agents' may have held!
