Our first property auction of 2008 was held at the usual venue of Henley Golf and Country Club on Tuesday 18th March 2008.
Seven lots were marketed for this sale including two houses with land, a workshop in Hockley Heath, the Old Railway Storage Yard at Bearley Nr Stratford Upon Avon, and three separate parcels of land including a productive apple orchard.
The marketing commenced at the beginning of February and very early on considerable interest was shown in Brecon, a semi detached cottage with 3.5 acres and some very excellent outbuildings and also in Grassmere, just outside Knowle with planning consent for full redevelopment of the house and surrounded by two acres of pasture land. Binding contracts to the sale of both these properties at figures substantially in excess of the guide prices were achieved well before the auction day.
Richard Abbey, therefore offered in the room, on the night of the sale, firstly the workshop and storage building in Hockley Heath, that sold for £158,000.
The Old Station Yard at Bearley was then offered, 1.7 acres of former railway goods yard. This achieved a remarkable of £125,000.
The 10 acres of apple orchard at Snitterfield Nr Stratford, like the two previous lots, also attracted fierce competition with the gavel finally being knocked down at £90,000.
Finally, Mr Abbey offered two blocks of farmland that failed to meet their reserve figures.
Overall, the conclusion on the night gave a result for all the lots marketed for this auction of in excess of £1,300,000.
