Our first auction of the year was held at the established venue of Henley Golf & Country Club and the auction room was packed. Richard Abbey announced that the site at Balsall Street East had exchanged contracts the evening before at a figure substantially in excess of the guide price and therefore there would be only two Lots offered.
The first Lot was 6 Church Street, Alcester, an investment opportunity with 3 ground rents and two flats let on assured shorthold tenancies. After a tentative start, bidding eventually increased until the gavel was knocked down at £195,000.
The final Lot was 'Glengarry', 176 Norton Lane, Earlswood. There had been over 80 viewings and some 350 sets of details downloaded from the website so Mr Abbey knew there was obviously substantial interest. There was a brave opening bid of £365,000 which was above the guide price and competitive bidding ensued with one of the bidders beseeching the auctioneer to knock the gavel down before inviting further bidding. The Lot was finally sold for £486,000, a quite remarkable result.
Our next auction is to be held on Tuesday 17th April 2007 at Henley Golf and Country Club and will include Tanglewood Cottages, Loxley, Heathfield Farm, Cut Throat Lane, Hockley Heath and Land at Hockley Heath
