Great Alne and Shelfield are situated between Henley-in-Arden and Alcester and benefit from the many shops, restaurants, public houses and amenities that both towns have to offer. They are small exclusive villages located near to one another and connected by delightful country walks. Great Alne takes its name from the river Alne. Great Alne in medieval times was named "Ruwenalne" which means "Round Alne". The church in Great Alne is St Mary Magdalene and is attached to Kinwarton Church in the nearby hamlet of Kinwarton. Alcester Town Hall was built out of stone from Great Alne. Great Alne also has a well-known public house named the "Mother Huff Cap" and a cricket club which was formed over 100 years ago.
