Great Packington

www.packingtonestate.net

This is a small hamlet situated in North Warwickshire. Packington was originally the Saxon name of Patitone meaning "Pacca's farm" or "settlement". The old medieval village is present in the shape of earthworks in the parkland of the New Hall. There are two halls within the estate, "The Old Hall" was constructed in the Tudor period as a timber framed house, but was replaced in the 17th century by a brick built house. It is believed that King Charles I stayed there before the major battle of the civil war and that Charles II may have passed through shortly after the battle of Worcester.

"The New Hall" was built a short distance away and is still the seat of the Earl of Aylesford. There is now The Forest of Arden Golf and Country Club which holds major golfing events. www.marriot.co.uk, Great Packington lies in between Coventry, Meriden, Coleshill and Solihull, giving easy access to many different amenities, shops, restaurants, public houses and sporting facilities.
