Kenilworth 1 Kenilworth Castle

The name Kenilworth derived from two key elements. One was someone's personal name taking the form of "Kenil", and the other was a commonplace suffix meaning fence or enclosure "Worth". Kenilworth is home to England's finest and largest Castle ruin www.english-heritage.org/kenilworthcastle/ Geoffrey de Clinton who was a Chamberlain to Henry I around 1122 established the Castle. It was designed to be an impregnable military fortress and was inhabited by many famous figures in English history such as Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester in the 1570's, Henry V built a pleasure garden there after he retired there briefly following his victory at Agincourt but Oliver Cromwell instructed for the demolition of parts of the walls and keep and the lake to be drained, so to prevent the Castle from ever being used as a Royalist Garrison. Today it is a tourist attraction, which is visited by people from all over the globe.

The town of Kenilworth also has a great deal to offer.
