Solihull is today a municipal borough which probably came into being about one thousand years ago as a clearing in the forest to which people came to trade. The Doomsday survey of 1086 suggests it was one of the most sparsely populated areas in the country but its growth began in earnest in the 1920's. Solihull now has excellent, modern shopping and retail facilities (www.touchwood-solihull.co.uk), a number of parks, leisure and sports centres, pubs and restaurants and good road and rail access to surrounding areas. There is also an excellent choice of schools and colleges (www.solihull-gov.uk)both within the borough and in the surrounding areas.
