The Village of Wilmcote surrounds the famous Mary Arden's House. The Tudor farmstead was identified in the 18th century as the childhood home of Mary Arden, the mother of William Shakespeare. This beautiful farmhouse is situated in the delightful village setting of Wilmcote. In 1930, the birthplace trust bought the property and refurbished the property to its original Tudor decoration. Today, the house is open to the public as a Shakespeare Countryside Museum www.aboutbritain.com/MaryArdensHouse.htm. There are guided tours of the farmhouse and farm buildings, cider mill and the Heart of England falconry.
As you can imagine Wilmcote is a Village full of immense English Heritage. This small but attractive village offers (as well as Mary Arden's House) a local village hall www.wilmcote.org.uk, a delightful countryside Inn aptly named " The Mary Arden", a local railway station and the Stratford-upon-Avon canal lies just two hundred yards from Mary Arden's house. Wilmcote is situated just 4 miles to the north of Stratford-upon-Avon, giving easy access to a number of Schools, Shops, Supermarkets, Bars, Restaurants, a Hospital, the Royal Shakespeare Theatre as well as the delightful setting of the River Avon.
Pathlow is a small hamlet just 3 ½ miles from
Stratford-upon-Avon which has one public house, The Dun Cow.
